Life eventually took me far from South Africa — to China, where I spent many years teaching at universities.
I taught subjects connected with entrepreneurship, marketing, sales and business communication. But living and working in another country meant I was learning just as much as I was teaching.
Working with students and colleagues across cultures opened a world of new experiences. The classroom was never only about a textbook; it was about people, ideas and the willingness to see things differently.
My work at UIC, now known as Beijing Normal–Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU), also brought opportunities to support student entrepreneurship and explore new ways of engaging students.
I have always enjoyed exploring. Perhaps the boy who went to thirteen schools was still curious about what lay around the next corner.
Some of these years are documented in university articles and in an AfriForum Wêreldwyd profile. The articles tell part of the story. The memories — the conversations, surprises and people — tell another.
